Reports: Greek club tables offer for Kaizer Chiefs’ target Avram Grant

As they hoped to seal a deal regarding their new coach, Kaizer Chiefs could find it difficult to land their reported No.1 target Avram Grant.

The Soweto giants have been linked with the former Ghana national team coach for a while, but the latest reports suggest that the coach is a wanted man in Greece with giants Panathinaikos believed to be interested.

The fact that Amakhosi are battling with a Greek side means that a deal is yet to be sealed and their target of appointing a new coach before their begin pre-season preparations is in jeopardy.

Media reports suggest that Chiefs are believed to be in a tussle with a top Greece side for the services of the former Chelsea coach and the interest has dragged the announcement of their new gaffer.

Chiefs are looking for a new coach to rake over from Steve Komphela who resigned in April following a three-year trophyless spell.

Following his departure, his assistant coach Patrick Mabedi and Arthur Zwane were handed the coaching reigns as interim managers.

According to the Daily Sun website, it is reported that the Israeli manager is looking into two offers, with the Super League Greece side having made a good offer.

Moreover, the Soweto giants are not giving up and are prepared to up their offer to rope in the 62-year-old master tactician.

It was Chiefs’ plan to have their new coach named just after the end of the past season, but the two offers on Grant’s desk could distract him.

Although Grant is currently at the helm of Indian side, North East United, where his contract is due to expire next year, Chiefs see him as a perfect candidate for the coaching job.

“This has been a big issue for Amakhosi. They have a number of good quality coaches who have shown interest in the job, but their preferred candidate has always been Grant,” a source told the publication.

“Failure to get him means they will have to start afresh in analysing other applicants,” added the informant.

Meanwhile, speculation has been rife in the past few days that former SuperSport United coach Eric Tinkler has joined the race for the job together with Stars coach Luc Eymael as some of the names vying for the job.
