Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila has completed a season-long loan from Kuwaiti side Al Qadsia to Serbian champions Red Star Belgrade, the two clubs have confirmed.

The 25-year-old has been in top form recently, catching the eye of Red Star's scouts when the Black Stars played Japan in an international friendly ahead of the 2018 Fifa World Cup.

"Red Star Belgrade have completed the signing of Ghanaian defender Rashid Sumaila on a season-long loan deal from Kuwaiti club Qadsia Sporting Club," a club statement read.

"The central defender passed his medical in Belgrade and signed at Rajko Mitic Stadium. The 25-year-old centre back has six senior Ghana caps to his name and has also played for his country at 2011 All-Africa games.

"Welcome to Belgrade, Rashid!" the statement added.

Sumaila expressed his delight after his presentation to fans and the media.

“I’m delighted to be here at Red Star Belgrade. I’m here to help the team and hopefully improve as a player," he said.

"This is a big club with rich history. The team has had a great season in the Europa League last term and I’m happy to contribute to this team.

"I’m a natural born winner. I can’t stand losing and this is why I will give my best to help this club win every time,” he added.

Sumaila is now the only Ghanaian at the club following the departure of Akwasi Frimpong and Richmond Boakye Yoadom last season.
