Heartland head coach, Ramson Madu has insisted that the Naze Millionaires did not underperform in a pre-season tournament they participated in as they were eliminated in the first round.
The Owerri side were held to three straight draws by Abia Warriors, Ebonyi Professionals, and Cynosure FC respectively and they were unable to register even a single goal but Madu who only had less than two weeks to prepare the team for the three games said his players gave a good account of themselves.
He said his players who are mostly new are still trying to blend to his philosophy and that he was happy that they ended the three friendly games without a defeat.
“It was another learning curve for us in the three matches we played recently and we will take the positives from the games that we didn’t lose any of them and we didn’t concede any goal either,” Madu told Goal.
“The tournament was meant for us to see the areas we have to improve on and to also see how our new players are adjusting to the team. We have seen them play and we shall go back home to revisit some of the mistakes we made and how to correct them before the start of the season.
“We will need more games like this to put us in shape and we must thank the club management for making us embark on this trip even at short notice. Heartland struggled last season because of the quality of players we signed and we want to address that before the new season begins.”
