The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has announced the nominees for this year's African Player of the Year award.

Union Saint-Gilloise and Bafana Bafana striker Percy Tau has made the cut alongside his former Mamelodi Sundowns teammates Denis Onyango.

This is Tau's second nomination for the top African award while Onyango has been on the podium to accept the award before.

Tau has been in scintillating form for both his club as well as the national team over the past 12 months.

Given his contribution before he left Sundowns for Brighton & Hove Albion, Tau surely raised his hand that he wants to achieve greater things in his career.

While he was loaned out to Belgian second division side Union Saint-Gilloise, Tau didn't allow the move to derail his progress.

He is regarded as one of the star players in the current crop of Bafana Bafana, and this has been evident in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

Meanwhile, Onyango will hope to go all the way to the top three this time around although the 34-man list released by Caf comprises of other African players plying their trade abroad.

Onyango helped Sundowns win the PSL title earlier this seasons, before single-handedly secured Uganda's plane ticket to next year's Afcon finals.
