The Giant Elephants striker has expressed his delight as the club ended their seven-game winless streak by defeating Yobe Stars

Wikki Tourist’s Nafiu Kabuga is relieved that the Giant Elephants ended their winless streak after they defeated Yobe Desert Stars 3-1 on Sunday in Jos.

Goals from Nasiru Jibrin, Ocheme Edoh and Elijah Ani ended the hosts’ seven-match winless streak as Samuel Agba, who marked his debut for the Damaturu side got a consolation for his new team in the 90th minute.

The forward explained that they were really not happy with their inability to win matches and that they celebrated their victory over Mohammed Babaganaru’s men wildly because they were delighted that the elusive victory had finally come.

“It was a win we worked for from the start to the end of the game,” Kabuga told Goal.

“We knew we needed to up our game if we are to stop our inability to win games both home and away and the first goal was very crucial to our determination to pick the three points. We were home and dry after we got the second goal at the start of the second half.

“The third goal by Elijah (Ani) sealed the points for us. We didn’t want to concede any goal because we know we have goals deficit to offset but it came at the end and there was nothing we could do about it.”

The striker also expresses delight that the home win has taken them away from the relegation zone and he has urged his teammates to ensure that fight Niger Tornadoes to a standstill this weekend in Minna in another league fixture.

“It was important that we strive as much as possible to try to leave the relegation zone and this win has made that possible,” he added.

“We must double up the level of our preparation for the next game with Niger Tornadoes knowing that only positive result will take us further away from the relegation zone. We don’t want to have any business with that position again and we must do everything possible to match those words with action at every time we step out to play.”
