Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Nkhatha's debut for Zimbabwe's Dynamos

Zimbabwean giants Dynamos’ fortunes continue to plummet and their headline signing of former Kazier Chiefs striker, Kingston Nkhatha could not be influential in Thursday’s 0-0 home draw with Chapungu.

Nkhatha joined Dynamos in July but could only make his debut on Thursday, following delays in obtaining a reverse international clearance.

Dynamos are enduring a tough season and for a desperate side, Nkhatha's arrival was highly-anticipated to immediately inspire a change in fortunes.

But the striker was largely anonymous, lasting the entire match, as Dynamos huffed and puffed all afternoon to scrap a point, which they were lucky to get away with.

Now with 30 points and just three above the relegation zone, Dynamos are in an unfamiliar position of 12th on the log. Coach Lloyd Mutasa is patient with his new striker.

“I think we will take the point given our situation,” Mutasa said.

“Just like any other coach, I would have wanted to see a response after losing our last game to Highlanders but it was not to be.

“Nkhatha being his first match did well, especially in the first half and it seemed like he would score but he did not find the back of the net.

“In the second half we pumped the ball forward to him in a rush and in most cases the balls were too high for him.”

Smarting from the 3-0 defeat away at Highlanders last weekend, Dynamos were under pressure to pick themselves up but things only got worse for them.

On Sunday they face Harare City in a derby showdown in which they will continue being scrutinised.
