Amakhosi have wasted no time in making changes to their technical team as they look to turn their season around

In an attempt to turn their season around, Kaizer Chiefs have continued to bolster their technical team, this time with the appointment of one of their former players as Ernst Middendorp’s assistant.

Shaun Bartlett was a household name during his time as a player and after enjoying stints as a coach with the likes of Golden Arrows and the University of Pretoria, he has been brought in to work closely with the German mentor.

Bartlett’s appointment follows the departure of Patrick Mabedi, who followed Giovanni Solinas out the exit door on Friday afternoon.

Chiefs took to their social media platforms to confirm the appointment of Bartlett with immediate effect on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

The 46-year-old is certainly not short on experience as aside from his coaching exploits, he was a well-traveled player, featuring for the likes of Charlton Athletic in England and FC Zurich in Switzerland.

Bartlett won 74 international caps for Bafana Bafana while scoring 29 goals.

He most recently assisted Stuart Baxter as part of his technical team for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Glamour Boys’ chairman Kaizer Motaung has welcomed the signing of Bartlett, who is no stranger to working with Middendorp having previously played under him as a player.

“Shaun played under Middendorp at Chiefs,” Motaung told the club’s website.

“We were looking for somebody with a stature at the coaching level. His technical understanding matched the profile we were looking for,” he added.

“He will bring with him a lot of international experience gained during his years playing in the US, Switzerland, and England. We wish Shaun all the best in this new role at the club,” concluded Motaung.
