Kaizer Chiefs faced Golden Arrows under protest over 'unplayable' pitch

Reports suggest that Amakhosi faced Abafana Bes'thende under protest and there's a possibility that the match could be replayed

In the wake of their 2-1 loss to Golden Arrows  in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) last weekend, Kaizer Chiefs have protested the state of the Princess Magogo Stadium's pitch.

It is reported that Amakhosi played the game under protest where they stated that the match was staged on an unplayable pitch in Durban.

“That is up to the prosecutor (the replay), isn’t it? I can’t comment on that,” PSL Chief Operations Officer Ronnie Schloss said to the Daily Sun.

Television footage displayed that the pitch was left with sand patches and not in good state following an event that was held there a few days prior to the clash.

“They (Chiefs) have lodged the protest and it was handed over to the prosecutor (Nande Becker). On when the prosecutor is likely to make the decision, I can’t tell.’’

During the encounter, Amakhosi conceded two goals via penalties where Limbikani Mzava netted a brace, leaving the recenty axed coach, Giovanni Solinas, to lambast the standard of the pitch.

On the other hand, striker Leonardo Castro found the back of the net for the visiting Soweto giants.

“If there’s a protest, it’ll be handed over to our prosecutor and he’ll decide accordingly,” Schloss added.

“It is not the club’s decision on whether it’s acceptable or not, it rests solely on the referee and match commissioner. In this case, it seems they (Chiefs) did lodge the protest, they played and the referee accepted that it was playable," he concluded.

In addition, the venue serving as home to Abafana Bes'thende has been closed for PSL football a it is fully booked until January to host local festivals, according to the report.
