The Amakhosi mentor has revealed why he has failed to find a consistent starting XI

Kaizer Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas has explained his reasoning behind his squad selection, but reveals that the constant tinkering has been less than ideal.

The Amakhosi boss was speaking to the media as they prepare to face SuperSport United in a Telkom Knockout Cup quarter-final this Sunday.

“You know we need more consistency because we played well in September winning three matches in a row,” Solinas to reporters.

The former Free State Stars boss led his troops to Premier Soccer League (PSL) wins over Cape Town City, AmaZulu and Ea Lla Koto in September.

However, they failed to build on their rich vein of form in October where they were held by Highlands Park and suffered defeat to Polokwane City, before clinching a win against Black Leopards in the TKO.

Moreover, Chiefs most recently suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of rivals Orlando Pirates in the league.

“After that we had bad results and I know why because we had injuries in the squad. We played against black Leopards without six players,” he continued..

“Castro was injured for a month and half and Lebo's (Manyama) injury. You know these are key players for us and that is the problem for us,” Solinas admitted.

“Yeah we need consistency and we need to play with the same players. Sometimes it's my decision as a coach, but sometimes injuries force me to change,” he acknowledged.

“I don't change for the sake of changing guys, you know the injuries force me because we don't have Lebo, we didn't have Khama (Billiat against Leopards), we didn't have (Dumisani) Zuma. You know I don't have a choice sometimes,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the Soweto giants are set to face Amatsantsantsa without the services of Manyama, although Castro, Billiat and Zuma have since returned to action.
