Individual errors blamed for Niger Tornadoes recent slide

Niger Tornadoes’ Reuben Ogbonnaya has attributed their recent underwhelming results in the league to individual errors and has charged his teammates to strive to halt it when they hosts Nasarawa United on Sunday in a make or mar tie.

The Ikon Allah Boys have been beaten in their last five matches including the two of their home fixtures with Akwa United and Heartland and Ogbonnaya said in an interview that even though the whole team would take the blame for their recent free fall but that they the defenders need to work harder to stop conceding cheap goals.

“I will say that it is the whole team that should be blamed for our defeats. It is not as if we have not been playing well but costly errors in defence have made us to concede too easy goals. It has been the same way in most of the games we have lost,” Ogbonnaya told Goal.

“Nothing has changed among the defenders that faced Akwa United in the final of the Federation Cup because we still remain intact but we need to talk to ourselves so that we can start winning games.

“It is so unfortunate that we have not been able to sustain the way we have started the season and something must be done to arrest the situation. We do not deserve to be where we are and we must do our part to ensure that results improve immediately.”

The former Kano Pillars and El Kanemi Warriors’ defender opined that the result against Heartland on Wednesday was unacceptable and that they will do everything possible not to repeat the unimpressive performance after the clear-the-air meeting they had with the technical crew shortly after the match.

“I believe we are going to witness a different performance against Nasarawa United with what we have said to ourselves to ensure that we return to winning ways.

“We all know what is at stake and we are working round the clock to ensure that there is a significant improvement in our next game and the ones after that."
