Ghanaian midfielder Augustine Okrah has joined Indian Super League side North East United FC in a two-year deal as a free agent.

The 24-year-old saw his contract with Egyptian Premier League side Smouha mutually terminated in June despite having one-year left following the club's inability to qualify for the Caf Champions League and Caf Confederation Cup.

"I have signed for NorthEast United despite other suitors. I'm happy to be here because it is another opportunity for me to prove that I'm a good player," Okrah told Goal.

"India is far from home but you might not know who is watching you from afar. Life has its own unique circumstances. I believe this is right club for me currently because they believe in my talent and are ready to help me reach the height I want in my career.

"Moreover, I've met my former coach whom I played under during 2011-12 season at Red Bull Academy in Ghana. It is good to meet him once again after several years and I'm ready to do my best for him," he added.

Okrah, who won the Ghana Premier League topscorer and best player in 2013-14 season, has become the third foreign player to join NorthEast after Nigerian Bartholomew Ogbeche and Uruguayan Juan Cruz Mascia.
