South Africa legend Helman Mkhalele believes that youngster Constandino “Costi” Christodoulou has the ability of making it overseas.

The 16-year-old has sent fan’s imaginations into overdrive after it was reported that the Maritzburg United reserve player was jetting off to England for a trial with Premier League outfit Manchester City.

Christodoulou will spend the next two weeks looking to impress Manchester City’s technical team and earn a dream move abroad.

Nonetheless, the goalkeeper who has represented South Africa at under-17 level certainly has the backing of one of SA’s junior coaches in Mkhalele, who tips the talented player to realise his dream of playing abroad.

“He is capable of making it. I don’t have any doubt in my mind that he will make it,” Mkhahlele was quoted as saying by the Citizen.

“He is still young and he will learn a lot and become an asset for us in future,” added the former Bafana Bafana midfielder.

Christodoulou is the latest player to try his hand at making a move abroad.

In recent times, Ajax Cape Town product Tashreeq Matthews signed for Borussia Dortmund, while Orlando Pirates player Lyle Foster is reportedly touted to be moving on to the French Ligue 1 in due course.

Meanwhile, Mkhalele believes that the success of youngsters moving abroad is an indication of the type of coaching they are being exposed to.

“What I would say is that it is important to have quality coaching at a young age for the youngsters. This shows Christodoulou is exposed to quality coaching and he is naturally teachable,” he explained.

“It sends a message that once our players get quality coaching at a young age they are more likely to be attractive to overseas teams. Quality coaching adds to the personal talent and balances the equation,” he concluded.
