Squads & Team News
Coach Hassan Oktay told Goal ahead of the match that he will make about nine changes to the starting eleven to ensure the team remains fresh ahead of the Caf Confederation Cup Group D match against Hussein Dey of Algeria.
Nevertheless, coach Oktay will have to do without the services of defender Joash Onyango, who is out injured alongside midfielder Francis Kahata. The good news for K'Ogalo is that striker Dennis Oliech, is likely to captain the side, after he returned to training from a four day ‘strike’ owing to money issues.
“I have tired legs in my squad already and with the Caf tie against Hussein Dey coming up on Sunday, I will decide on whether to start him and also rest a few players, maybe nine or seven, but I promise that I will rotate the squad.”
Probable XI for Gor Mahia: Odhiambo, Ochieng, Shafik Batambuze, Harun Shakava, Momanyi, Okeyo, Wendo, Ondiek, Omondi, Oliech and Mustafa.
Tusker FC have most of the players available for selection, and with that in mind, coach Robert Matano will be targeting maximum points against the defending champions in the away fixture.
Probable XI for Tusker: Emery, Aloro, Wandera, Wahome, Tangauzi, Sempala, Senaji, Otieno, Omondi, Juma and Muchiri.
The hosts are aware that with maximum points, they will cut the gap between them and leaders Bandari to just two points. It is more or the same for the brewers, who will be three points behind the leaders if they manage to get maximum points.
Both teams have played thirteen matches, and important stats are close; Gor Mahia have hit the back of the net twenty-one times, two more than the brewers. K’Ogalo have also a better defense having conceded eight goals, one more than their visitors.
In the twenty games played, Gor Mahia has managed to win seven, eight ending in draw and the rest in Tusker's favour. Last season, however, Tusker managed to collect four points from Gor Mahia after holding them to a barren draw in the reverse fixture and going on to win by a solitary goal in the second leg.
Of those twenty recent league encounters, Gor Mahia has managed to put thirteen goals past Tusker, with the latter managing ten.
