Gor Mahia treasurer Sally Bollo now says that K’Ogalo will not risk the lives of their fans by playing at Bukhungu

Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards are pulling on opposite directions on the possible venue for the Mashemeji Derby.

AFC Leopards, who are the home team, had set Bukhungu Stadium as the venue to host the ‘Ingwe Homecoming’ match, but Gor Mahia now says that the facility is not fit to stage the same.

This is after Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa termed the facility as ‘some funny stadium’ when he directed the derby to be called off, but the host and the Kenyan Premier League insisted the match will go on as planned.

Gor Mahia treasurer Sally Bollo now says that K’Ogalo will not risk the lives of their fans by playing at Bukhungu.

“We will not risk the lives of our players and fans to attend a homecoming event in the name of a Derby. Bukhungu does not have the capacity to host both of us. You can imagine there are no stands in terraces and you cannot control a crowd which is already on its feet."

With Kasarani closed for renovation, Bollo proposed that the derby to be staged at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

“At least Nakuru, Nyayo and Kasarani stadia fans are seated in the stadium and the police officers are in between separating the two sets of fans. Therefore, for these reasons Bukhungu Stadium should not host the derby simply because of the lives of football lovers matters!”
