Ibrahima Cisse has issued an apology to his coach Paul Put for the angry celebration after scoring the second goal in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier 2-0 home win over Rwanda on Friday.
The 24-year-old shot home from just outside the box two minutes after coming on as a substitute and appeared to be gesticulating insults towards Paul Put as he celebrated.
“I want to apologise to the public, the coach and my teammates who may have been hurt by my celebration,” Cisse was quoted as saying by the BBC.
“It was more of a rage associated with the joy of having scored my first goal for my country. I let myself get carried away by my emotions and I apologise. Long live the Syli.”
His way of celebration had been interpreted as an expression of anger towards his Belgian coach because he started from the bench.
Debutant and Napoli midfielder Amadou Diawara was instead preferred to start in his place.
Cisse has since been included in the squad that travelled to Kigali for Tuesday’s return fixture, with the BBC also reporting that the Belgian has accepted the apology.
Guinea are enjoying a 100 percent run, having won all three games in this campaign including beating Ivory Coast 3-2 away.
Meanwhile, Uganda coach Sebastien Desabre is not worried by the artificial grass at the Setsoto Stadium where they clash with Lesotho on Tuesday.
Uganda arrive in Maseru on a high from Saturday’s 3-0 win over Lesotho in the reverse leg in Kampala.
“About the Setsoto stadium artificial surface, our players have played on such surfaces especially the KCCA FC and Vipers SC players. Concerning the weather, many have faced this cold weather like those who play in South Africa,” Desabre told the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) website.
Uganda lead Group L three points clear of second-placed Cape Verde.
Elsewhere, Cameroon have arrived in Malawi without injured key players Eric Choupo-Moting, Brighton and Hove defender Gaetan Bong and 2017 Afcon winning star Christian Bassogog.
PSG forward Choupo-Moting captained the Indomitable Lions and scored the all-important goal in the 1-0 win over Malawi at home on Friday.
