Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Issa Sarr stops training with Highlands Park

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Issa Sarr has stopped training with Highlands Park as his search for a new club continues.

This is according to the Lions of the North coach Owen Da Gama, who told Goal on Monday that the Senegalese national is not with the 2017/18 National First Division (NFD) champions.

“He's no longer training with us and I don't know what happened, he just stayed away...there is no explanation at all,” Da Gama told Goal.

Although local media reports suggested that Sarr was close to signing for Highlands Park, Goal has gathered that the midfielder is back in his homeland, Senegal.

Moreover, the former Bafana Bafana assistant coach was quoted in the media as saying that the midfielder was at an advantage to join his side because he was eligible to gain a South African residency permit.

“I know for a fact that Sarr is gone back to Senegal, but I am sure he will be back,” a source was quoted as saying.

Sarr has been training with the Tembisa-based club for about two weeks after parting ways with the Buccaneers just before the start of the current Premier Soccer League (PSL) campaign.

In addition, the PSL returnees are also reportedly assessing former Platinum Stars and Pirates winger Mahlatse Makudubela as he also hopes to revive his football career.

Sarr left the Soweto giants after spending four seasons at the club since joining from Dikwena in 2014 after helping the then Rustenburg-based side to MTN8 and Telkom Knockout glory.

Meanwhile, Highlands Park recently signed former Ajax Cape Town and Pirates striker in Tendai Ndoro.
