Former Tottenham forward Souleymane Coulibaly signs for Scottish side Partick Thistle

Former Al Ahly striker Souleymane Coulibaly has joined Scottish side Partick Thistle on a one-year deal.

The 23-year-old joins Partick Thistle one year after fleeing Egypt just four months into his three-and-a-half year contract with Al Ahly last year, saying he feared his life.

Following his absconding, Al Ahly reported the Ivorian to Fifa who then ordered him to pay a fine of $1.4 million.

Although it is yet unclear if he managed to pay the fine, Coulibaly has found a new home in Scotland where he previously turned out for Kilmarnock.

The completion of his move is however subject to international clearance, according to Partick Thistle.

”Partick Thistle can today confirm the signing of 23-year-old attacker, Souleymane Coulibaly on a one-year deal, subject to international clearance,” confirmed Partick Thistle on their official website.

“The Ivorian striker comes to Maryhill on a one-year deal having left Egyptian side, Al Ahly last year. Souleymane is best known for his spell in Scotland with Kilmarnock as he became a fans’ favourite at Rugby Park…”

Coulibaly joined Tottenhamn in 2011 after scoring nine goals for Ivory Coast at the Fifa Under-17 World Cup that year to claim the golden boot.

This included a hat-trick against Brazil and four goals to sink Denmark.

He could however not make an impact at the Premier League side resulting in a loan spell in Serie B and subsequently a permanent move to Bari.
