Lions Abroad: PKNS' Faris Ramli

Many of you may not know but Singapore’s Faris Ramli once made it to the top 52 of Nike's 'The Chance' competition, a worldwide talent hunt for young players. Though the former Loyang Secondary student did not make it into the selection of the final 16 in Barcelona, it certainly underlined the immense talent he had.

The hotshot winger began his career with the U-23 side Young Lions in Singapore’s top flight before moving to the LionsXII for the 2013 MSL (Malaysia Super League). His time at the LionsXII would see him finish the season as the team’s top scorer in the MSL with eight goals.

In 2016, he would sign for Home United after LionsXII disbanded. But his time at Home would see his stock take a dip due to injuries. But the following year proved to be different as Faris was in sensational form, earning a player of the year nomination.

2018 saw Malaysian side PKNS secure his services. He would go on to score his first goal for the club in a defeat against Kedah FA. Moreover a comfortable 4-1 victory for PKNS over Perak on the final day of the MSL season, coupled with favourable results from elsewhere, helped PKNS rise two spots to finish third in the league.

PKNS’ top-four finish meant that they were placed in pot 1 of the 2018 Malaysia Cup draw and they started their campaign with a resounding 5-2 victory over PDRM.

Faris continued his impressive form when he found the net in the 63rd minute against PDRM — his eighth of the current season — and played a hand in two more goals in the rout. Faris’ PKNS recently secured a 3-3 draw in the Malaysia Cup against Shahdan Sulaiman’s Melaka United on the 11th of August.
