The Team of Choice have confirmed that they are working on signing the former Amakhosi midfielder ahead of the 2018/19 PSL season

Having been dumped by Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the 2017/18 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season, midfielder Keagan Buchanan is on the verge of signing with Maritzburg United.

Media reports suggest that the former Bloemfontein Celtic creative midfielder has impressed the Team of Choice’s technical team led by coach Fadlu Davids.

Buchanan is looking for a new club after leaving the Soweto giants where he failed to impress and is set to be a United player sooner rather than later.

"He hasn't put the pen on paper but he is going to sign. The club has been very impressed and they will announce him soon," a source told Independent Media.

Meanwhile, according to the club’s football manager Quentin Jetto, they are working on securing the player’s services as he has been training with the team over the past few weeks.

The Cape Town-born player joined the Soweto giants from Phunya Sele Sele in 2016 but experienced an unfruitful stay at Naturena.

He played in seven matches in all competitions in his first season and only featured three times in the PSL for Amakhosi last term.

However, in order find a regular spot in the team at Maritzburg, he will wrestle for the jersey with the likes of Lebohang Maboe, Siphesihle Ndlovu and Fortune Makaringe.

Moreover, Jetto also confirmed that they have opted against signing former Bidvest Wits and Golden Arrows winger Jabulani Shongwe, who has since stopped training with the club.

As they will hope to continue with their last season’s exploits, the Team of Choice will want to sign the creative midfielder to bolster their ranks.

“Yes, we are working on that but we haven't signed him," Jetto told the publication.

"Yes we have released Shongwe. He is no longer training with us," Jetto added.

The side form the KwaZulu-Natal midlands reached the MTN8 Cup semi-finals and the Nedbank Cup final last season as they secured a fourth spot finish in the league.

Although they rubbished reports that they are chasing former Chiefs defender, Tefu Mashamaite’s signature, the club may be looking for Bevan Fransman’s replacement who has joined Highlands Park.
