The People’s Elephant are set to leave for the Southern African nation ahead of their Caf Confederation Cup Friday night fixture

18 Enyimba players and officials will depart for South Africa on Wednesday night to honour the first leg of the Caf Confederation Cup Playoff Round tie with Bidvest Wits.

The two-time African champions were drawn against the reigning South African Premier Soccer League champions in last month's draw in Cairo, Egypt and will play the first leg at the Milpark Stadium in Johannesburg on Friday, April 6 at 8pm South African time and by 7pm in Nigeria.

In a statement from the club, the team is scheduled to depart from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos on Wednesday night, to arrive Johannesburg in the early hours of Thursday.

One of the coaches of the team Usman Abdullah stressed that Enyimba players are in high spirits and have vowed to do the nation proud in South Africa.

“We are leaving for South Africa on Wednesday and we have avoided flying with the option of stopping over in neighbouring nations,” Abdallah told Goal.

“We are travelling straighaway to South Africa and to arrive on Thursday morning. We will train at match time on Thursday and be ready to face Bidvest on Friday. We have a lot to prove and that will be done on matchday.

“We have called up 18 in-form players that will know will give us what we want in South Africa. We won’t joke with the prospect of qualifying for the group stage which is staring us in the face if we beat Bidvest to the ticket,” he noted.

The People’s Elephant defeated Energie FC of Benin Republic 5-2 on aggregate in the last round of the competition.
