Gareth Southgate's side come into the game full of confidence having beaten the Netherlands 1-0 in Amsterdam over the weekend, though the game was marred by trouble between supporters and police.
The Azzurri, on the other hand, were soundly beaten by Argentina in their last outing - losing 2-0 in Manchester - and they will be desperate to get a win on the board having not tasted victory since an away World Cup qualifier triumph over Albania last October.
The hurt of missing out on the World Cup still resonates and Italy can begin to exorcise those demons by putting in a good performance to clinch a positive result on Tuesday.

Caretaker boss Luigi Di Biagio is expected to make a number of changes to the team that began against Argentina.
Gianluigi Buffon is likely to be replaced by Gianluigi Donnarumma, while Antonio Candreva is pushing for inclusion ahead of Federico Chiesa.

England stretched their unbeaten run to seven games with their narrow victory over Ronald Koeman's men on Friday and, while he was pleased, Southgate wants to see further improvements against Italy at home.
"There's a lot to work on and we can still get better," Southgate told ITV after the win over the Dutch. "There are more things we want to look at on Tuesday, but it was a really good exercise."
The Three Lions will have to plan for the Italy game without the aforementioned Gomez and WIlshere, but with the likes of Harry Maguire, Eric Dier and Dele Alli to call upon they are well covered in those areas.
The Azzurri are also expected to change things up from the game against Argentina as they look to end a run of games without a win that has now stretched to three following their loss to Jorge Sampaoli's side.
Buffon, who completed a U-turn on his decision to retire, should make way for AC Milan shot-stopper Donnarumma, while Di Biagio has an array of options in attack, with the likes of Andrea Belotti and Patrick Cutrone eager to stake their claims for a long-term place in the team.
