Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso has urged the Amakhosi faithful to remain calm ahead of the new 2018/19 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season.
The defender was speaking after two successive losses to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Shell Helix Cup and Cape Town City in the Mpumalanga Cultuaral Expierience Cup.
Chiefs were narrowly efged out by the Citizens thanks to a goal by Craig Martin.
However, the Bafana Bafana defender remains undeterred and is adamant that the Glamour Boys will work even harder to improve as they have their sights set on challenging for trophies following a three-year trophy drought.
On the other hand, Cardoso has praised new coach Giovanni Solinas’ philosophy.
Amakhosi raised their supporters' expectations after bringing in several new faces which included Khama Billiat and Letlhogonolo Mirwa among others during the transfer window.
Meanwhile, Chiefs will get their new PSL season underway with a mouth watering clash away to the reigning champions on Saturday, August 4, at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
“A pre-season friendly is just like any other game, we want to win it,” Cardoso was quoted as saying by IOL.
“Unfortunately it’s not going well for us. We need to change our ways going forward. We need to start being more positive. It looked like we were down on the field and we looked tired. Maybe pre-season is starting to take a toll on us,” he explained.
“But that’s what it’s for, pre-season is to build up towards the season. When we lose these games, it’s hard on us and hard on the fans,” he continued.
“The fans take it the wrong way and think that’s what we will be doing in the upcoming season,” said the defender.
“To the fans, we will definitely improve. It’s a setback for us again but we have Sundowns next and it’s a good start for us,” he urged the fans.
“He is a great coach. His philosophy is there. He came a week and a half ago. We haven’t really had much time to work with him,” said the former Free State Stars player.
“He missed three quarters of our pre-season. I think that once the season starts, we will start going into it,” he reacted.
“We wished we worked with him in pre-season but it wasn’t that way. I think that he will change things once the season starts,” concluded the centre-back.
