Daniel Arzani's Antoine Griezmann near miss and his favourite Socceroos jersey

The young gun was gunning for the French star's shirt

Much like Barcelona, Socceroos teenager Daniel Arzani has also missed out on securing the prized jersey of Antoine Griezmann.

The Australian attacker came on as a substitute against France in the Socceroos World Cup opener as the French narrowly escaped with a 2-1 win.

It was Arzani's first taste of playing on the world's biggest stage and the 19-year-old revealed he hasn't yet exchanged shirts with anyone but was aiming for the Atletico star's jersey.

"Not yet, but I was hoping for Griezmann's!" Arzani said.

Arzani's rise to Russia has been a phenomenal one after only debuting for the Socceroos off the bench last month and scoring just over a minute into his second cap.

Particularly taken with Australia's new green away kit, Arzani plans on holding on to every jersey he's worn in a game to date, with his very first set for some special treatment.

"My favourite kit is probably the current Nike away kit, released this year for the World Cup," he said.

"I like the green and volt combination - I think it looks really cool, the volt really pops out at you.

"I’ll keep all the ones I have - probably give them all to my parents to save for me. I will probably frame my debut one!"

Having starred in his brief cameos off the bench in Russia, Arzani has attracted the attention of some big clubs with Juventus the latest to be linked to him.

While he undoubtedly has a bright club future, for now the teenager is savouring playing for his country - a honour he clearly holds very dear.

"I think there’s a much bigger sense of pride when you play for your country," Arzani said.

"You’re representing your family, your friends and your country, and it’s really something special."
