Chelsea loan army: Kenedy, Mason Mount and the talents who have been sent away this summer

Chelsea's transfer activity every summer revolves heavily around their innovative loan system, which involves them sending a host of homegrown and foreign talent out on loan in search of regular game time.

The idea is that, with the assistance of the Blues' dedicated team of coaches for loanees, these youngsters will either develop into players capable of challenging for a first-team role at Stamford Bridge or be sold on to other clubs at a significant profit.

Superstars such as Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku have come through Chelsea's loan system, which, of course, also shows that the stockpiling of talent is hardly fool proof.

However, the likes of Victor Moses, Andreas Christensen and, looking further back, John Terry all benefited from temporary moves away from west London.

As a result, Chelsea have once again been very busy loaning out players during their current transfer window.

Indeed, Kenedy has already been given the green light to spend another season at Newcastle United, with an option to move to St. James Park at the end of the 2018-19 campaign, after he helped the club beat the drop during his six-month stay on Tyneside last term.

Elsewhere, Mario Pasalic has joined Atalanta on loan but the Bergamo-based outfit have an option to buy for €15 million (£13.4m), having promised the Croatia international more game time than Serie A rivals Fiorentina.

Vitesse, meanwhile, currently have two Chelsea loanees, Eduardo and Jake Clarke-Salter, the latter of whom captained Chelsea to UEFA Youth League and FA Youth Cup success last year.

Baba Rahman's 18-month loan stay at Schalke 04 carries over into the new season as he bids to get back to his best form after an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

However, as the comprehensive list of Chelsea's loan army below illustrates, a number of Blues will be learning their trade in The Championship this season, with Mason Mount arguably the most high-profile departure, having joined Frank Lampard and Jody Morris at Derby County...
