Bidvest Wits have parted ways with midfielder Bantu Mzwakali by mutual consent ahead of the 2019/20 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season.

The 25-year-old former Ajax Cape Town star joined Wits from Chippa United at the beginning of the previous campaign but failed to command a regular starting berth and Goal can confirm that he has subsequently been shipped out by coach Gavin Hunt’s side.

Mzwakali made just four appearances for Wits in what has turned out to be his first and final season at the Braamfontein-based outfit.

Despite being seen as a promising youngster at the Urban Warriors and having previously been linked with moves to both Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, Bantu’s career seems to have hit a hurdle.

Aside from his stint at Wits, he also failed to cement his place at Chippa before his departure.

Now a free agent, Mzwakali will hope to rediscover his best form as he goes in search of a new football home.

Mzwakali, who was natured in the Ajax Academy, shot to prominence during the 2013/14 season at Ajax where he endeared himself to the club’s fans.

He eventually went on to become a regular and even lifted an MTN8 trophy whilst also registering a Nedbank Cup runners-up medal with the club, but left Ajax in January 2018.

Meanwhile, Mzwakali is not the only face departing the Clever Boys.

After missing out the PSL title, the club are looking to rebuild with Darren Keet also set to depart when his contract runs out at the end of the month and Goal previously confirmed that Daylon Claasen had also left the club. Striker Lehlohonolo Majoro has since gone on to join AmaZulu for his second stint at the club.
