Benik Afobe on target in Stoke City’s stalemate with Brentford

Benik Afobe was on target in Stoke City’s 1-1 draw with Brentford at the bet356 Stadium in Saturday's English Championship encounter.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee continued from where he stopped in last week's season-opening loss to Leeds United.

The Potters took the lead in the 29th minute, thanks to the Congo DR international’s strike. Afobe tucked the ball home after Chris Mepham headed the ball past his goalkeeper Daniel Bentley.

But in the 66th minute, Ollie Watkins handed Dean Smith’s side a way back into the game firing the ball past Jack Butland, having found space on the edge of the area.

With just six minutes of action left, Butland got a fingertip to deny Watkins, who danced inside the area and looked to find the far post, to ensure they avoid a second consecutive loss.

Afobe was on parade for the entire duration of the match and this was his second goal in as many encounters while Oghenekaro Etebo came on as a second-half substitute.

Despite picking their first point of the season, Stoke dropped into the bottom three [22nd from 21st].

They travel to take on Preston North End in their next league game on August 18.
