Benatia, Ndidi, other African stars gear up to resume league action

Several African stars including Juventus defender Medhi Benatia, Leicester City's Wilfred Ndidi, AC Milan's Franck Kessie, Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah have returned to their base for preparation for this weekend's club games.

Benatia, Salah, Kessie were in action for Morocco, Egypt and Cote d'Ivoire respectively and helped their countries secured crucial results in last weekend's 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Morocco defeated Cameroon 2-0 and Cote d'Ivoire settled for a share of the spoils against Guinea in Conakry to join Egypt as qualified teams for the biennial tournament in Cameroon.

However, Aubameyang missed out of Gabon's 1-0 loss Mali due to injury while Nigeria's Ndidi was suspended to play against South Africa after receiving two consecutive yellow cards against Libya back in October.

Top European leagues will resume action this Saturday after a week-long break and African stars, in high spirits, have shifted their focus to making impact for their clubs.
