Bayern Munich star Lewandowski equals Bundesliga record for foreign goalscorers

Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski has equalled the Bundesliga record for most career goals by a foreign player.

With his double on Saturday, Lewandowski reached 195 career Bundesliga goals, tying Claudio Pizarro for the record.

Lewandowski was on target twice at Borussia-Park, as Bayern easily defeated Borussia Monchengladbach 5-1.

The victory meant Bayern drew level on points with Borussia Dortmund atop the league table as the Bavarians search for a seventh consecutive Bundesliga title.

As Dortmund have faltered, Bayern have now won 11 of 12 league games to close what was once a nine-point gap.

Lewandowski joined Dortmund from Lech Poznan in 2010, before making the move to Bayern ahead of the 2014-15 campaign.

The Polish star has become one of the most decorated Bundesliga players in recent memory, having won the league twice with Dortmund before winning it on another four occasions with Bayern.

Lewandowski does have an active challenger for the record he equalled on Saturday, as Pizarro is still playing for Werder Bremen at age 40.

The Chilean, who also played for Bayern, has scored three Bundesliga goals in the 2018-19 season thus far.

Bayern reached another milestone on Saturday, as Serge Gnabry's goal meant the Bavarians are the first side to reach 4,000 Bundesliga goals.
