In the case of Barca, La Liga decided to launch a champions’ badge which will be worn by the Catalan giants given that they are the title holders, throughout the 2018/2019 campaign.
The La Liga Santander badge as it is called will be displayed on Barca’s shirt in the wake of the club’s title winning ways last season.
Significantly, this initiative taken by La Liga is to highlight the excellence and quality of the competition in Spain’s top flight division. Moreover the league’s organising body is honoured that a club of Barca’s stature is the first club to wear the badge.
The design is inspired by La Liga’s new corporate identity revolving around a heartbeat. This alludes to the passion generated by fans towards the league. Subsequently, the badge will be placed on the right sleeve directly above the La Liga emblem and will feature the ‘17/18’ inscription, in reference to when the club captured the league title. In addition, the patch will be available for purchase from the club’s official shops.
Conversely, the badge was shown off for the first time in Barca’s first game of the new La Liga season on Saturday where they thrashed Alaves 3-0.
