The Gunners have now gone 10 games on the road against sides currently in the Premier League's top six without collecting a much-needed win

Arsenal’s failings against direct rivals in the Premier League standings look set to cost them another title shot.

The Gunners slipped to a 3-1 defeat at capital rivals Chelsea on Saturday, leaving them 12 points adrift of the table-topping Blues.

A 13-year wait for top-flight glory appears set to be extended in north London, with Arsene Wenger’s side heading in the wrong direction.

They could end the weekend outside of the top four, with Champions League qualification far from guaranteed.

It is their inability to pick up positive results against those in and around them that continues to hold them back, particularly on the road.

To have collected only five points from a possible 30 on offer against those also pushing for lofty finishes is a sorry return for a club boasting such ambition.

The Gunners still have trips to Liverpool and Tottenham to come this season, so will need to find a cure for their travel sickness if they are to preserve a faultless record of top-four finishes under Wenger’s guidance.

Wenger also needs to find a way of bringing about an upturn in fortune against all opponents, with Arsenal threatening to undermine the positive work they put in early on in the campaign.
