Julian Nagelsmann has highlighted the Ghanaian's qualities despite his predicament against the French giants on Wednesday

Hoffenheim defender Kasim Nuhu Adams has received support from club manager Julian Nagelsmann in the wake of a disappointing showing in the Uefa Champions League against Olympique Lyonnais on Wednesday.

On his first appearance in the elite European inter-club competition for new side Hoffenheim, and with Die Kraichgauer 2-0 down, the Ghana centre-back copped dismissal for a second bookable offence just six minutes after the interval.

But against expectations, the German side weathered the storm as they fought back to snatch a 2-2 away draw at the death.

"Adams made a good impression," Nagelsmann said at a press conference on Friday ahead of Saturday's Bundesliga meeting with Augsburg.

"Of course, every now and then he makes mistakes, but he defends well in tight spaces.

"He's good on the ball and he can take that element of risk with him, as he continues to develop."

Nagelsmann also touched on the upcoming fixture, which could be Adams' fifth appearance in the German topflight.

"Augsburg are not an easy opponent and they defend well," said the 31-year-old.

"There are few teams who can afford to take many chances against them.

"The club is developing well and Manuel Baum is doing an excellent job."

Adams joined Hoffenheim from Swiss club Young Boys on a five-year contract in July.

It was with YB that the 23-year-old first played in the Champions League.
