Chelsea will now turn their attentions back to the Premier League, they travel to Vicarage Road on Saturday to face Watford. Meanwhile, United travel to Bournemouth.
Manchester United are through to the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup after a 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, thanks to two goals from Rashford. They led 1-0 at the break, with Rashford scoring from the penalty spot, however, Chelsea equalised shortly after the break, with Batshauyi scoring a terrific solo goal to make it 1-1 and it looked like the Blues would go on and win it. Rashford then scored a stunning free-kick late on, to send Solskjaer's side into the next round of the competition.

Chelsea just can't sustain their attacks at the moment, they haven't tested Romero since going 2-1 down. Can they do something late on and force the game to penalties?

Another booking, this time to Kovacic, for his challenge on Williams.
Prior to tonight's game, Chelsea had won 10 of their last 11 League Cup matches at Stamford Bridge, with the only exception being a 0-0 draw with Arsenal in January 2018.
Decent effort! Kovacic goes for goal from the edge of the penalty area, but he doesn't make good contact with the ball and it flies well wide of the United goal.
Chelsea are struggling to get on the ball at the moment, with the visitors doing a very good job defensively and appear to be seeing the game out. Can Chelsea mount one last attack?
Fred is booked for timewasting on the halfway line with a United free-kick.
The visitors are just slowing the pace down now, taking their time with all their throw-ins and set pieces, much to the frustration of the Chelsea supporters.
United respond by making their final change of the game and there will be no hat-trick for Rashford, as he is replaced by Young.
Third and final Chelsea substitution, with Batshuayi coming off and he has been replaced by Abraham.
Batshuayi has equalled his longest scoring streak for Chelsea across all competitions, having netted in three consecutive games for the third time for the Blues (previously doing so in May and September 2017).
Can Chelsea get another equaliser? They've got 15 minutes plus any additional time to do so and have looked danergous in this second period.
GOOOAAALLL! What a strike by Rashford to make it 2-1 to United! The striker with a special free-kick, he gets it up and over the wall and enough dip on it to make it fly into the top left-hand corner of the net, Caballero was nowhere near it.Superb.
Free-kick to United in a very good shooting position after Pedro brings down Fred around 30 yards out. Rashford is going to step up to take it...
The other Chelsea change sees Pulisic come off and Pedro is his replacement.
Now it's Chelsea's turn to make a double substitution, with Gilmour replaced by Mount.
It looks like United will now change into a straight back four, going into a 4-2-3-1 formation as Martial leads the line and Rashford continues over on the left wing.
The other change sees Lingard head off the pitch and he has been replaced by Pereira.
Manchester United have made a double substitution, the first change sees Lindelof come off and he has been replaced by Martial.
Lampard had started to get some players warmed up on the sidelines, but since the goal went in, it looks like they are going to see how things go for the time being.
United will be forced to come out and play again, having sat back for most of the second half and looked to break on the counter-attack. The hosts are well on top right now.
GOOOAAALLL! Chelsea are level, it's 1-1! Batshuayi with a terrific individual run and strike to get Chelsea back in the game. It's a long clearance by Caballero, which Batshuayi wins ahead of Maguire and then turns and sprints at the United defence, before firing it into the back of the net from 25 yards out, straight into the bottom right-hand corner.
Still no signs of any changes for either side here, as Chelsea are now dominating possession and are starting to test the United defence.
Good effort! Hudson-Odoi fires the ball towards goal on the volley after a long ball forward from the back. The winger gets good contact on it, but it flies just over the United crossbar.
United have won six of their last seven League Cup matches against Premier League opposition (L1), including a 3-2 victory in the final against Southampton in 2016-17.
The game is set up for United to break forward on the counter-attack now, as Chelsea continue to keep the ball and press forward themselves. James and Rashford can certainly hurt the Blues on the break with their pace.
PENALTY SHOUT! Huge appeals by Chelsea for a penalty, after Gilmour's strike is blocked by Rojo just inside the area. Hudson-Odoi almost breaks through on goal, but Williams cuts out the pass and Gilmour follows up the rebound. Nothing given and the replays show that it didn't strike his arm. There is no VAR used in the EFL Cup.
CHANCE! The first Chelsea chance of the game and it falls to Hudson-Odoi! Alonso drills a low cross into the box from the left wing and falls to Hudson-Odoi at the near post, but he scuffs his shot and it flies well wide of the United goal, when it should have at least forced Rojo into making a save.
Chelsea are starting to do things a little bit quicker now at the start of the second half, keeping the ball in the United half of the pitch and they are showing much more attacking intent.
Hudson-Odoi looks in some pain as he gets clattered into the back by Rojo and Williams, with the latter slinging him over the advertising boardings and into the back of a steward. The medical team are giving him some treatment on the touchline.
The second half is under way!
The attacking front three of Chelsea have struggled to get on the ball, especially Batshauyi, who is up against three United centre-backs. McTominay had a good chance for United early on, but that's it in terms of chances here.
United lead 1-0 at the break after Rashford's 25th minute penalty, after James was brought down from behind by Alonso and the striker sent Caballero the wrong way. Chelsea are struggling to break down the United defence, with Romero not having anything to do in the United goal so far and the visitors look very assured.

HALF-TIME: CHELSEA 0-1 MANCHESTER UNITED

The visitors are managing the game very well now, making it difficult for Chelsea to break through as they are sitting in a back five when the Blues do get on the ball and are putting them under some good pressure.
Romero in the United goal is yet to make a save, he's barely touched the ball so far tonight and United are now keeping it well and easing to half time 1-0 up. Chelsea are having to do a lot of defending and chasing of the ball at the moment.
Rashford has now scored four goals against Chelsea across all competitions; his joint-most against a single opponent (also four v Leicester).
Decent effort! The ball falls nicely to Lingard after good work by Rashford down the left wing and Lingard finds space on the edge of the penalty area, but his shot lacks the pace to beat Caballero, who makes a comfortable save.
There's not much movement in the Chelsea box as James whips a decent cross into the penalty area from the right wing, no-one can get close to it and United win the throw-in on the opposite side of the pitch.
The Chelsea front three has been pretty quiet so far, with Hudson-Odoi and Pulisic struggling to get on the ball. The American winger has stayed in the Chelsea starting XI after his hat-trick performance against Burnley at the weekend.
We're just past the half an hour mark at Stamford Bridge and Manchester United lead 1-0, thanks to a Rashford penalty after James was brought down in the box. It's comfortable for the visitors against a young Chelsea side.
Chelsea last faced Man Utd in the League Cup in a fourth-round tie in October 2012, winning a 5-4 thriller in extra time, with eight different players scoring that day.
United have looked solid so far, they haven't dominated possession, but they've looked strong at the back and haven't allowed Chelsea any chances at goal yet.
GOOOAAALLL! Rashford converts from the penalty spot, to make it 1-0 to United! The striker sends Caballero, who dived early, the wrong way. He slides the ball into the other corner of the net.
UNITED PENALTY! James sprints into the penalty area after winning the ball back in midfield, he is chased down by Alonso, who takes his legs away from behind and brings him down. No hesitation by the referee, who points to the spot straight away.
Jorginho and Gilmour are controlling the midfield for Chelsea, they've regained their composure on the ball, but are yet to get it forward to the front three and test the United defence.
Lingard is playing in the middle of the front three for United, with James to his right and Rashford to his left, so they can cut inside and shoot at goal. However, they are yet to really test the Chelsea backline.
Batshuayi is the first Chelsea player to be booked, after his late challenge on McTominay. The United midfielder gets to the ball first and the striker catches him late.
United have started to grow into the game slightly now, slowing the pace down, with Zouma having to deal with a bit of pressure from Rashford and James at the back.
This is Chelsea's second-youngest starting XI under Frank Lampard (24y 166d), after their game v Sheff Utd in August (24y 159d).
CLOSE! Good chance for United, the best opportunity so far! The visitors play a short corner, drilling the ball to McTominay, who gets away from his marker and he fires the ball towards the near post, but it ripples the sidenetting.
The first yellow card of the game is shown to McTominay, after his late lunge on Kovacic and there are no complaints from the United midfielder, as he doesn't get anywhere near the ball.
There is a cracking atmosphere inside a packed out Stamford Bridge, with United bringing their full allocation in the away end.
United clear the initial delivery out of play for another corner and then the second set piece is headed away by Maguire, who also wins a free-kick, easing the pressure on United.
Chelsea have started well, they look bright on the ball, with Hudson-Odoi and Pulisic getting involved early on. The American has a go from the edge of the box, but it's blocked by Lindelof and goes out for the first corner of the game.
Jorginho has the captains armband for Chelsea tonight, the centre midfielder is key in the Blues attacking play, starting plays from the back. United look happy to sit deep and allow the hosts to play the ball around in front of them.
United have started the game by enjoying the early possession here, keeping the ball well in a back three, with Wan-Bissaka and Williams both getting forward in the wing-back positions.

Chelsea eased into the fourth round of the EFL Cup, with an impressive 7-1 victory over Grimsby Town, whilst United could only beat Rochdale on penalties, after a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.
The two sides have already met this season in the Premier League, with United thrashing Chelsea 4-0 on the opening day at Old Trafford. However, it is now Chelsea who are the in-form team, they have won their last seven games in all competitions and sit fourth in the league. Meanwhile United are seventh, having won their last three games, but before this run, they suffered a 1-0 defeat against Newcastle United.
