Commentary

Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
City now prepare an attempt to win a domestic treble when they travel to Wembley to take on Watford in the FA Cup final next week. Brighton are now on their summer holidays, ending the season with a disappointing 10-game winless run in all competitions. They have issues to address ahead of their return to Premier League action in August.
MANCHESTER CITY ARE PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS! Pep Guardiola's men win 14 matches on the bounce to close out the season to beat Liverpool to the crown. It has been one of the most intense battles for the title in Premier League history, but City have edged their rivals by a single point. There were nerves this afternoon as the Reds put them under pressure by scoring an early goal against Wolves at Anfield. Glenn Murray then put Brighton and Hove Albion ahead to send the City bench into panic stations. However, the response was emphatic as it has been all season. Sergio Aguero equalised immediately, slotting a strike through the legs of Mat Ryan. Aymeric Laporte then put his team in front in the game and the title race with a close-range header. Riyad Mahrez's strike proved to be the vital one taking them out of the reach of the Seagulls before Ilkay Gundogan ensured that the crown was travelling to the Etihad Stadium with a sublime free-kick. It was a fine performance from City in the circumstances - proving that they are worthy champions, becoming the first side since Manchester United in 2009 to win back-to-back titles.
90' + 2' FULL-TIME: BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION 1-4 MANCHESTER CITY
90' + 1' Knockaert breaks past the challenge of Zinchenko, but Bernardo Silva tracks all the way back to the byline to make the covering challenge.
90' There will be two minutes of added time.
89' BLOCK! Mahrez works the ball into the path of Aguero, who is one goal behind Mane and Mohamed Salah in the race for the golden boot. The Argentine sees his left-footed effort blocked by Duffy. Aguero may miss out on the individual honour, but it's doubtful he will care too much about that.
Danilo
K. Walker
Manchester City
88' Walker makes way for Danilo for the closing stages of the contest.
87' De Bruyne tries to catch out Ryan with a quickly-taken free-kick, but the Brighton keeper is alert to stop the strike from the Belgian.
N. Otamendi
V. Kompany
Manchester City
86' Kompany's turn to receive an ovation from the away fans, although he doesn't look ready to call time on his career with City yet. The skipper greets Guardiola with a hug as he is replaced by Otamendi.
85' City try to force the issue through the middle of the park. However, Aguero sees his path to goal blocked by a wall of blue and white shirts.
Martín Montoya
Bruno Saltor
Brighton & Hove Albion
84' Bruno bows out from the professional game to a standing ovation from the Amex Stadium. The full-back has been a great servant to Brighton and receives a perfect send off before being replaced by Montoya.
82' Aguero twists and turns down the left flank and wins a free-kick drawing a foul from Knockaert.
80' Dunk carries the ball out from the back and loses possession to Sterling. The winger speeds forward and releases Aguero in the middle. However, Brighton get enough men back to disrupt the Argentine before he can pull the trigger.
K. De Bruyne
David Silva
Manchester City
78' De Bruyne comes on to the field to replace David Silva to get minutes before the FA Cup final next week.
76' The game is entering a pre-season pace now as City are moving the ball around the pitch with ease. It's job done for Guardiola and his team.
74' The City fans inside the Amex Stadium are in fine voice now. Their side are on their way to clinching a second crown on the bounce.
İ. Gündoğan
Goal
Manchester City
72' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! THE TITLE IS SURELY CITY'S NOW!!! GUNDOGAN SCORES A STUNNER!! 4-1!!! Gundogan scores City's fourth of the afternoon with a brilliant free-kick from 25 yards. He curls his effort over the wall and it has enough bend to travel inside the post to nestle into the back of the net beyond the despairing dive of Ryan. That surely ends the game and the title race once and for all.
71' Bissouma brings down Sterling on the charge 25 yards from goal, handing City a free-kick in a dangerous position.
71' Zinchenko carries the ball forward from the back and he goes for a strike from 25 yards. Dunk takes action ahead of Ryan on the slide, clearing the ball into touch.
70' David Silva drifts into space down the left flank and he hooks the ball towards the back post. Bernardo heads behind, although there was no City player in the vicinity.
F. Andone
G. Murray
Brighton & Hove Albion
67' Murray is withdrawn for Andone for the hosts.
J. Locadia
A. Jahanbakhsh
Brighton & Hove Albion
67' Jahanbakhsh makes way for Locadia for the home side.
67' WIDE! City work the ball in tight quarters in the final third. Gundogan takes over on the edge of the box and goes for a low strike towards the bottom corner. However, it trickles wide of the target.
65' One goal was going to be difficult for Brighton to get in the second half. Two goals seems almost impossible against this City team. Guardiola and his men are on the march to the crown.
David Silva
Assist
Manchester City
63' David Silva rolls the ball into the path of Mahrez, who does the rest with a fine finish.
R. Mahrez
Goal
Manchester City
63' GOALLLLLLLL!!!! MAHREZ FIRES A THIRD FOR CITY!!!! 3-1!!! Could this be the goal that wins the crown for City? Mahrez raids to the edge of the box and beats one challenge with a neat piece of skill. The space is there for him to fire at goal on his right foot. He connects with his effort and he finds the top corner as the ball beats the hand of Ryan. The City bench erupts on the sideline.
61' Gundogan rolls the ball into the path of Sterling in the box. He turns and places an effort towards the bottom corner, but it's a tame one that Ryan saves with ease.
59' It has not been a full-blooded effort from City in the second half as of yet. They have more gears to find and Guardiola will like his team to find them sooner rather than later.
57' BLOCK! Brighton put their bodies on the line at the back to deny Gundogan with a strike from the edge of the box before Duffy scoops the ball away from the German on the rebound.
56' Kayal clips the ball into the box for the run of Jahanbakhsh, but Ederson is quickly off his line to take the cross out of the air.
54' There are claims for a backpass from the home fans as Laporte has to clear his lines ahead of Murray. Ederson catches the looping ball rather than heading it away, but referee Michael Oliver saw nothing wrong.
53' OVER! Brighton win a free-kick for a challenge on Jahanbakhsh by Walker. Knockaert lifts the ball into the box from the left flank and Dunk rises above Zinchenko, only to plant his effort over the bar.
52' Walker throws the ball long into the box, but Dunk manages to battle it away from Aguero to clear the danger for the home side.
51' Brighton have yet to click into gear in the second half. They've not been able to sustain a period of play for more than a few seconds.
49' Mahrez feeds the ball towards Aguero in the box, but under pressure from Dunk, the Argentine loses out in the battle for possession.
48' Mahrez is played into space down the right flank and he fires the ball across the face of goal. Dunk is there to clear behind with authority for the home side.
47' Knockaert gives possession away with a loose pass in his own box. However, David Silva and Sterling are unable to capitalise on the opening.
46' We're back underway at the Amex Stadium.
The game is not over yet and Brighton have been plucky in the final third. Given the result at Anfield and City's one-goal lead, it only takes one goal from Brighton to turn their title race back in the favour of Liverpool. Guardiola's men cannot afford to rest on their laurels, they need to put the Seagulls away in the second half.
Manchester City are on course to win their second Premier League crown on the bounce, taking a 2-1 lead into the break against Brighton and Hove Albion. Pep Guardiola and his team were given an almighty scare after hearing news that Liverpool had taken the lead against Wolves. Matters then got worse when Glenn Murray headed the home side in front from a corner. However, City responded like champions, equalising within a minute when Sergio Aguero fired a low strike between the legs of Mat Ryan. The visitors maintained the pressure on the Brighton goal and Aymeric Laporte headed his team ahead in the game and back in command of the title race.
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION 1-2 MANCHESTER CITY
45' + 1' SAVE! Dunk lines up an effort in the ilk of Ronaldo with his run-up and strike. The ball moves in the air at speed, but it's straight at Ederson, who tips it over the bar.
45' + 1' Bissouma has his run impeded by Kompany 25 yards from goal and the referee awards Brighton a free-kick. It will likely be the final act of the first half.
45' There will be one minute of added time.
45' The tempo of the game has slowed as we approach half-time. Guardiola will be delighted with the response of his team since going behind.
43' City and their fans can breathe again now. They've been by far the better side, but they needed to hold their composure in front of goal and they've risen to the occasion.
41' Zinchenko releases the run of Sterling down the left inside channel and he cuts the ball back across the face of goal, but Brighton just manage to survive for now.
40' This is the first time since 8th December (0-2 v Chelsea) that Man City haven't scored the first goal in a PL game.
R. Mahrez

Manchester City
38' Mahrez lifts his delivery into the six-yard box and Laporte heads home.
A. Laporte
Goal
Manchester City
38' GOALLLLLLLLLLLL!!! LAPORTE HEADS CITY IN FRONT!!! 2-1!!! A huge goal for City, which sees them reclaim their position at the top as it stands. Mahrez lifts a pinpoint delivery into the box and once again a mistake by Murray hands the visitors an opening. The Brighton striker fails to track Laporte, who is afforded a free header and he powers his header into the net from close range.
37' A mistake by Murray on the edge of the box allows City to steal possesssion. Mahrez works an opening for a strike in the left inside chanel, but his effort is diverted behind for a corner.
36' Brighton win a free-kick on the right flank that Gross sends into the box, but Duffy can only loop his header from the edge well over the bar.
35' David Silva latches on to Kompany's ball over the top after drifting into the left inside channel, but his cutback is cleared by Dunk.
33' Only in 2016-17 (33) has Sergio Aguero scored more goals in all competitions for Man City than he has this term (32).
32' It's all hands on deck for Brighton at the back. City are probing with menace and putting their backline under all sorts of pressure.
30' SAVE! City cut Brighton open down the left flank and Zinchenko whips the ball to the back post. Bernardo Silva connects with a diving header, but Ryan makes the save on the line.
S. Agüero
Goal
Manchester City
28' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!! AGUERO RESPONDS!!! CITY EQUALISE!! 1-1!!! Guardiola's men had to respond and they have. David Silva turns the ball around the corner into the left inside channel. Aguero holds his nerve, drilling a low left-footed strike between Ryan's legs into the net. Perfect timing as ever from the Argentine.

28' David Silva flicks the ball into space for Aguero to collect and convert.

27' Gross puts his delivery on the money and Murray heads home for the Seagulls.
G. Murray
Goal
Brighton & Hove Albion
27' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!! BRIGHTON TAKE THE LEAD!!!! MURRAY HEADS HOME!!! 1-0!! If City were under pressure before they certainly are now as Murray hands the Seagulls the lead. The delivery from Gross is perfect towards the near post, allowing Murray to get ahead of his man to convert with a close-range header. City have to respond now.
27' City clear the throw, but only as far as Jahanbakhsh on the edge of the box. He goes for the strike on the half-volley, only to see his effort diverted behind.
26' Brighton enjoy a rare foray outside of their own half as Gross combines with Murray to win a throw-in down the right flank that Bruno will send long into the box.
24' SAVE! Ryan makes a good decision to palm Mahrez's low cross away as City worked an overload down the left flank to leave the winger in space following good work from Aguero and David Silva.
23' City probe with numbers around the edge of the Brighton, but once again the visitors lack the cutting edge to break open the Seagulls' defence.
21' Gundogan looks to thread the needle with a throughball for Aguero, but his pass travels straight out for a goal-kick.
20' It's all City at the moment. They have to respond to the goal from Liverpool at Anfield.
19' Sterling breaks into space down the right flank and he fires the ball into the middle. Ryan tips it away from goal, but City keep the pressure on the edge of the Brighton box. Only a loose offload from Walker stems the tide.
18' UPDATE: Pressure on City as Liverpool take a 1-0 lead against Wolves through Sadio Mane. As it stands Liverpool will be champions.
17' Zinchenko whips a cross in with pace towards the back post, but there's no City player near the ball as it travels out for a goal-kick.
15' Bernardo Silva threads a low ball towards the near post. It almost causes havoc in the Brighton box before Ryan dives on it ahead of Aguero.
14' City win a corner on the right flank and Gundogan whips the ball into the box. However, Dunk rises highest in the middle to nod the cross to safety.
12' Kompany wins the ball from Murray to bring City forward. Sterling collects in the right inside channel to lift a cross into the box. Aguero rises to head at goal, but it skims off the top of his head to allow Bruno to make the clearance.
11' Aguero latches on to an offload from Bernardo Silva and turns to fire at goal, but Duffy is there to block his strike on the edge of the box.
10' WIDE! Knockaert releases Jahanbakhsh into space down the left flank and he collects in space. The Brighton winger cuts back on to his right foot to strike at goal, just placing his effort wide of the target.
9' Zinchenko loses out in the midfield and Murray clips the ball over the top for Knockaert to chase. The winger collides Laporte and concedes a cheap free-kick.
7' Walker has space and time on the right flank, but he sees his cross into the box blocked by Jahanbakhsh. The home side are up for the battle this afternoon.
5' OFFSIDE! Knockaert runs at the City defence before lifting a cross into the box. Murray rises in the middle with Laporte, but the forward is flagged offside as he makes contact.
4' Bernardo Silva surges down the right flank after winning the ball from Bernardo. He bursts into the box before being brought down fairly by the covering Brighton full-back. A close call for the hosts.
3' BLOCK! City probe on the edge of the box as Gundogan lines up a strike from the edge of the box, only to see his effort charged down by Bernardo.
1' Bruno defends well under pressure from Mahrez down the left flank, winning a goal-kick for his team. Sterling starts on the right side of the attack for City, with Mahrez down the left.
1' We're underway at the Amex Stadium.
The last team to be top going into the final day of an English top-flight season and not win the title were Liverpool in 1988-89.
Guardiola has made one change to the side that beat Leicester City on Monday. Mahrez gets the nod to come in from the cold for his first start since City's defeat to Tottenham in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final. Phil Foden misses out on the squad altogether, while De Bruyne returns to the bench.
Brighton have made two changes to their side from their draw against Arsenal last time out. Dale Stephens and Solly March miss out on selection from the squad and are replaced by Knockaert and Kayal in the midfield this afternoon.
MANCHESTER CITY SUBS: Danilo, John Stones, Kevin De Bruyne, Leroy Sane, Nicolas Otamendi, Gabriel Jesus, Arijanet Muric.
MANCHESTER CITY (4-3-3): Ederson; Kyle Walker, Vincent Kompany, Aymeric Laporte, Oleksandr Zinchenko; Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan, David Silva; Riyad Mahrez, Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling.
BRIGHTON SUBS: Gaetan Bong, Jurgen Locadia, Florin Andone, Martin Montoya, David Button, Dan Burn, Jayson Molumby.
BRIGHTON (4-4-1-1): Mat Ryan; Bruno, Shane Duffy, Lewis Dunk, Bernardo; Anthony Knockaert, Beram Kayal, Yves Bissouma, Alireza Jahanbakhsh; Pascal Gross, Glenn Murray.
City would become the first team to win successive crowns since Manchester United won the Premier League in the 2007/08 and 2008/09 seasons. Standing in their way of that objective are Brighton, who have not been on form, failing to win any of their last nine matches in all competitions. Guardiola's men bested them in their FA Cup semi-final clash last month, edging the contest by a 1-0 scoreline. The Seagulls has been resilient in the past and with their home crowd behind they will be determined to bow out of the 2018/19 season with a positive result.
After 37 games only one point separates the top two sides in the Premier League. City hold the advantage over Liverpool after their vital win over Leicester City on Monday. Vincent Kompany's 25-yard screamer may have decided the title race, digging his team out of trouble at the Etihad Stadium. The drama is not over yet though and this afternoon could bring memories of City's first Premier League crown when Sergio Aguero had to score at the death against Queens Park Rangers in 2012 to guide them to the title. Pep Guardiola will be hopeful of a more routine result today.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League match between Brighton and Hove Albion and Manchester City at the Amex Stadium.
