Coca Cola Trophy Tour Mexico 9Goal

VIDEO: When the World Cup hit the Azteca - Will it go back to Mexico on July 15?

What a weekend it was!

Mexico City were the perfect hosts in April as The FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca Cola continued its journey though the Americas.

From Lucha Libres to penalty-shootout competitions and Bubble Football, the two-time FIFA World Cup hosts provided quite a welcome.

And there is also a meeting of great minds, as the Mexico national team’s own mascot Kin crossed paths with the Official FIFA World Cup 2018 mascot Zabivaka.

Meanwhile, Mexico president Enrique Pena Nieto became the latest government leader to receive the great honour of holding aloft the most prestigious prize in all of world sports – and he hopes he’s not the last Mexican to do so.

"Let's hope our national team puts on a great performance and comes back to Mexico with the World Cup trophy as the champion," he said before the trophy moved on to the historic Azteca Stadium.
