Super Falcons are still the best in Africa – Maureen Mmadu

The former Nigeria international has explained the reason why the Falcons are miles above other countries in Africa

Maureen Mmadu claims Nigeria women are still the best national side in Africa as they bid to retain their Africa Women’s Cup of Nations crown.

The Super Falcons beat hosts Cameroon in the final of the 2016 edition, with many onlookers pointing to that result as a stamp to their status as Africa’s best.

When hostilities begin in Ghana on Saturday, Thomas Dennerby’s ladies would be hoping to continue their dominance.

And the Super Falcons’ assistant coach says they remain the standard bearers on the international stage.

“I think there is little or no argument that Nigeria is still the number one women’s football country in Africa and not only because the Super Falcons had won almost all the past championship,” Mmadu told Caf website.

“The truth is that we (Nigerians) embraced women’s football earlier than most African countries and that is why you have so much talent all over the country.”

Nigeria have been pooled in Group B alongside South Africa, Zambia and Kenya. They begin their campaign against Banyana Banyana at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on November 18.
