Sundowns claim they haven't changed their mind about allowing Tau to go to Europe, but there seems to be more to the story

Mamelodi Sundowns have released a statement refuting reports that they are reluctant to sell Percy Tau to European clubs that have shown interest in him.

Tau's agent Mmatsatsi Sefalafala confirmed on Sunday that the Tshwane giants are playing hard ball despite receiving an offer reported to be in the region of R34 million from English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion

The club then released the statement, confirming that they're still committed to allowing Tau to ply his trade in Europe.

Sundowns said they will not engage and discuss in public and with the media the confidential negotiations with European clubs that are interested in the 24-year-old attacker.

Full statement:

Mamelodi Sundowns have stated on numerous occasions over the past 18 months that it is committed to ensuring that Percy Tau plays and pursues his career in Europe.

We have been saddened by misrepresentations and false statements in the media concerning discussions for Percy Tau to play in Europe.

Mamelodi Sundowns will not engage and discuss in public and with the media, the confidential negotiations that are currently underway with several interested European clubs for Percy Tau to play in Europe.

Meanwhile, Tau took to his Instagram account to hit back at Sundowns for claiming that the statements made by his agent are false.

While it is still too early to tell how this will pan out, a possible transfer saga is looming, especially with Tau reportedly unhappy with how Sundowns have been dragging their feet regarding his future.

Recent media reports suggest that Tau hasn't travelled with the 2016 African champions for their pre-season camp which starts on Monday in Rustenburg.

Tau's contract with the Brazilians will expire in June 2019, and should the club fail to cash in on him as soon as possible, then they could lose him for free next season.
