On the third of July, the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) kicked off the inaugural Singapore Pools – FAS Inter-School Futsal Challenge. Set to be the largest school futsal tournament in Singapore, it will take place this July and August across two age-group categories – Under-10 and Under-14.
Beyond the development of technical skills, a key objective of this tournament is to inculcate positive values in the young participants through sport. Three values – Respect, Teamwork and Passion – have been identified and will be encouraged throughout the tournament. In addition, SPL (Singapore Premier League) players have also been roped in to act as ambassadors for the the largest school futsal tournament.
Young Lions captain Taufiq Muqminin, Justin Hui from Hougang United FC and Mukundan Maran of Warriors FC were announced as Values Ambassadors at the opening ceremony of the inaugural Singapore Pools-Football Association of Singapore (FAS) Inter-School Futsal Challenge (ISFC) at Our Tampines Hub.
The Under-10s tournament, which has already commenced, will take place from 3 July to 18 July 2018 with 44 teams from 37 participating primary schools. The Under-14s competition is scheduled to kick off in August. Looking ahead, the FAS aims to run this tournament as an annual event for schools and expand the game to include more age categories as well as a girls’ futsal tournament.
