Cape Town City played host to Maritzburg United at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Citizens dictated the terms from the first whistle and they found the back of the net through skipper Thamsanqa Mkhize, who netted in the seventh minute to make it 1-0 to City.

Maritzburg's Mxolisi Kunene restored parity for Maritzburg after the restart to make it 1-1 in the 62nd minute.

However, Gift Links restored the hosts’ lead with a powerful left-footed shot which beat Richard Ofori in the 71st minute making it 2-1 to City.

With eight minutes to go, Riyaad Norodien made it 3-1 to City, but they took their feet off the pedal allowing the visitors to bounce back.

Maritzburg kept pushing and their efforts were rewarded when Fortune Makaringe scored two minutes later, but it was not enough as Maritzburg lost 3-2 to City.

City are now placed fourth on the league standings with 33 points from 20 matches, while Maritzburg remained rooted at the bottom of the table with 14 points from 21 matches.

At the Lucas Moripe Stadium, SuperSport United took on a stubborn Baroka FC side on Saturday night.

Striker Mduduzi Mdantsane ensured that Baroka were the first to draw blood in the 23rd minute through a penalty to make it 1-0 to the visitors.

However, Mxolisi Macuphu restored parity with a goal after the 45-minute mark to make it 1-1 for SuperSport.

With 12 minutes left on the clock, Thato Madigoe sealed Baroka's 2-1 win over SuperSport with a long-range shot.

The win took Baroka to 12th place on the log with 21 points from as many matches, while SuperSport are now placed fifth with 33 points from 21 matches.
