Sam Nyamweya urges fans to turn out and cheer Gor Mahia against US Alger

Sam Nyamweya has called on fans to rally behind Gor Mahia when they take on USM Alger in Caf Confederation Cup battle on Wednesday.

K’Ogalo will be seeking to get their first win in Group D after forcing a 1-1 draw away to Rayon Sports of Rwanda in their opening match.

USM Alger are topping the Group after mauling Young Africans (Yanga) 4-0 at home. The former football boss is now convinced that Gor Mahia are the best team in the country and will do even better if fans rally behind them.

“On Wednesday, Gor Mahia plays their second game and I once again take this chance to wish them well, at the same time I call upon fans from across the country to come out and support Gor Mahia. They will be representing Kenya and hence need all our support.”

Nyamweya also took the chance to congratulate the Kenyan champions for their good display against Hull City a friendly played last Sunday. “I take this opportunity to congratulate Gor Mahia for the great show the players put up on Sunday in the historic friendly against former English Premier League side Hull City at the Kasarani Stadium.

“For the tens of thousands, who thronged the stadium to watch the game and the millions, who watched on TV across the country will agree with me that Gor Mahia represented Kenyan football well and duly deserve a pat on the back," said Nyamweya in a statement obtained by Goal.

“It is a clear manifestation that club football in Kenya is coming of age with Gor Mahia taking the lead. For Gor Mahia to hold Hull City is a big statement about Kenyan football.

“Personally, I have been the leading crusader of community football and what we saw on Sunday has proved my position right. To the Thousands who attended the game, keep it up. To the organizers and sponsors of the game- SportPesa, you did a fantastic job.”

Gor Mahia match against USM Alger will kick-off at 7pm.
