The Reds could extend their lead atop of Group C with a win over Red Star when they travel to Serbia on Tuesday in the Champions League

Liverpool have the chance of extending their lead at the top of Group C by a greater margin when they travel to face Red Star in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

The Reds fell to a loss away to Napoli but managed to bounce back with a 4-0 win against the Serbian side in their most recent European outing, and currently sit at the top of the group by one point.

Red Star have only managed to register one point in their Champions League group stage campaign and though their progression to the last 16 stage is unlikely, could pull an upset over the Merseyside visitors to sway the group in favour of Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool Red Star 2018-19 Champions League Sadio Mane

Liverpool's 4-0 win against Red Star in the home fixture was a much-needed signal of intent and comeback following their lacklustre display away to Napoli, which they lost 1-0 in the dying stages of the game .

Goals from Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane sent the Reds to the top of their group while PSG and Napoli were held to a draw .

Klopp's side's fixtures against the Serbian side come at an opportune time and give them the chance to establish a lead ahead of more difficult and crucial fixtures against PSG and Napoli to round off the Champions League group stage.

Group C is just one of many 'Groups of Death' in this year's edition of the European competition, with French giants PSG currently sitting in third place and two points below Liverpool as they head into Tuesday's round of games.

Shaqiri has been omitted from the squad to face Red Star due to the reception he might receive from Serbian support, given his Albanian roots and the controversial celebrations he made for his Switzerland side during the World Cup.

Liverpool will finish their Champions League group stage with a home fixture against Napoli and an away trip to the Parc de Princes – which is arguably their most difficult tie yet.
