Pitso Mosimane is still trying to get his house in order having brought in no less than five new players in the off-season

Mamelodi Sundowns began their league title defence with a 1-1 draw at home to Kaizer Chiefs this past weekend.

Pitso Mosimane's team did well to force a point at the Loftus Stadium, but going away to Polokwane City will be their toughest test yet given the history between the two sides.

Rise and Shine suffered a 1-0 defeat to Black Leopards on Saturday, and coach Jozef Vukusic will hope for a better result this time around.

While Vukusic will need more time to settle down and put together a team that will be able to compete with the best in the league, he understands that losing two games in a row would increase pressure on him.

Squads & Team News

Last week, Mosimane brought in Mosa Lebusa, Lebohang Maboe and Reyaad Pieterse in an attempt to continue dominating the South African league.

Maboe made his debut against Chiefs, and he raised his hand for the technical team to consider him for this encounter.

He is seen as a direct replacement for Khama Billiat, who left the club to join Amakhosi in the off-season.

Lebusa is also likely to make his debut against Rise and Shine in order to be on the same level with the rest of his teammates, but he could start on the bench especially after Ricardo Nascimento rescued a point for the Brazilians in their opening encounter.

On the other hand, Pieterse may have to wait a little longer given Denis Onyango's form and experience.

Potential Sundowns XI: Onyango; Ngcongca, Lakay, Arendse, Nascimento; Kekana, Manyisa; Zwane, Sirino; Vilakazi, Brockie.

Polokwane City may still pin their hopes on the team that lost to Black Leopards at the Thohoyandou Stadium.

Rodney Ramagalela, who also played for Sundowns, is expected to bring his A-game on the night.

The lanky striker finished last season as the league's joint-top goalscorer, and he will want to go a step further this term.

There's also Walter Musona who showed glimpses of a quality striker last season, and the Sundowns defence will have to be wary of City's attacking department.

Potential Polokwane City XI: Chigova, Sikhosana, Motloung, Hlongwane, Mbonani, Maluleke, Phiri, Seabi, Sikhondze, Musona, Ramagalela.

Sundowns last beat Polokwane City in 2016, and this will give Vukusic a glimmer of hope going into the encounter.

While it has been a while since the Brazilians got the better of Rise and Shine, they will take solace from the fact that they have dominated this fixture in the past.

In head-to-head stats, both teams have met 10 times in the past, with Sundowns winning five to City's three while the other two matches ended in draws.
