Former Hearts of Oak coach Mohammed Polo says Asante Kotoko need to prove they are capable of coping with the weight of expectation in the Caf Confederation Cup as they are likely to face Kariobangi Sharks in the first round.
With the Kenyan club thrashing ARTA Solar 6-1 in the first leg of the preliminary fixture on Tuesday, Polo believes Kotoko's defence must be able to keep them at bay if the two clubs meet in the next round as widely expected.
"It is good for Kotoko to know the kind of opponents they will face in the next round. Although, the number of goals scored in first leg by Sharks show how prolific their attack is, one can also argue that the opposition they faced also counts," Polo told Goal .
"Since Sharks are likely to qualify, Kotoko defenders must be careful and show they are good by keeping them away from repeating such a scoreline in Kenya. Kotoko have to justify why they were the only Ghanaian club which had the opportunity to participate in the Caf inter-club competition," he added.
The first leg of the first round has been scheduled between December 14 and 16 at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
