Ghana midfielder Kwadwo Poku has admitted his happiness following his inclusion in the Black Stars squad ahead of the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Congo at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Friday.

The 25-year-old made his debut for Ghana in 2015 against Canada in an international friendly but he's yet to play in a competitive fixture.

“It feels great and I don't know how to describe it. Even at the training session, you see the fans behind us; it feels amazing and I am glad to be back home playing for the national team," Poku told

“It is a dream come true that I have come to play for my country.

“When I was a kid at Prempeh College, we used to play Milo Championships at the Baba Yara Stadium but this is a bigger moment now as I represent my country in an international assignment.

“Every game in this tournament is difficult and the Congolese are a good side but Ghana has a lot of talents in football. Everything is possible and we are here to make it possible to go to the World Cup,” he added.

Poku wants Ghana to recover from their slumber and qualify to the World Cup so he can play on the highest stage.

“Everybody wants to play in the World Cup. It is a big achievement to play in the World Cup, to play on the big stage with all the big players,” he said.

With striker Rafael Dwamena ruled out of the game, after failing his Brighton & Hove Albion medical, Poku is likely to play behind captain Asamoah Gyan upfront.
