The CSL side were said to be willing to offer the United star up to £700,000-a-week earlier in the year but have now cooled their interest

Chinese Super League champions Guangzhou Evergrande have ruled out the possibility of any new signings in the summer transfer window, ending the speculation linking them with a move for Wayne Rooney.

The Manchester United forward was reported to be a target for the cash-rich CLS outfit earlier in the year, only for the 31-year-old to see out the remainder of the campaign at Old Trafford.

Rooney started just 15 Premier League games for United last season, scoring five goals.

His time at Old Trafford is now seemingly up as Jose Mourinho looks to reshape the squad ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.

Rooney is said to have offers from a number of MLS sides if he chooses to leave United, and has also been linked with a move to boyhood club Everton.

A move to China with Guangzhou Evergrande, however, who were reported to have previously tabled an offer worth around £700,000-a-week, is now off the cards.

“The head coach [Luiz Felipe Scolari] is more than satisfied with the current conditions of our domestic and foreign players,” club vice president Liu Yongzhuo told Chinese media.

Scolari's side currently lead the CSL, two points ahead of second place Shanghai SIPG, with who they will also encounter in the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League in an all-Chinese clash.
