Monaco vs Club Brugge: TV channel, live stream, squad news & preview

The scale of the job that Thierry Henry faces at Monaco is becoming increasingly apparent after four matches in charge of the team, which have produced two draws and two defeats.

Already, any serious chance of progression in the Champions League has gone, with his side locked with Club Brugge on just one point at the foot of Group A, which was gained a fortnight ago when the teams drew 1-1 in Belgium.

With Atletico Madrid and Dortmund looming, this game will have the feel of a knockout tie, though the potential prize is a place in the Europa League after Christmas – hardly the kind of glamour that the 2017 semi-finalists would have wished for when the draw was made.

Match Preview

Radamel Falcao, AS Monaco - Lille, Ligue 1 08182018

Four matches, two draws and two defeats. It has been a baptism of fire for Thierry Henry in the coaching game.

His Monaco side are kept off the bottom of Ligue 1 only on goal difference and have little hope of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League after earning only one point from three matches.

Saturday’s 1-0 loss away to newly promoted Reims was an incredibly limp defeat and one that has the new coach concerned already – a sentiment he reiterated on the eve of his side’s hosting of Club Brugge in the Champions League on Tuesday.

“It's a mental thing but I'm not going to pretend this isn't worrying, because it is,” he told the media. “It’s up to us to turn things around with hard work.”

Although Monaco have earned a reputation of bringing young players through in recent seasons, even by their standards the squad that is liable to face the Belgians will be young, in part due to a plague of injury problems.

“It's got into our heads, me as much as any of the others,” Djibril Sidibe, whose return from injury has been one of the few pieces of positive news for Henry, confessed. “There are plenty of young players here and many of them have little experience.”

Henry might have played down the importance of Europe in previous weeks in order to focus on improving his club’s ailing league position, but now he is eager to take any win that might come his way.

“It’s a huge game,” he confessed. “We need the three points.”

Unsurprisingly, Brugge, who should have won in Belgium two weeks ago instead of being forced to settle for a 1-1 draw, are confident.

“We’ve already shown that with the way we play we can create chances and score goals,” head coach Ivan Leko said. “It’s possible to go back with a victory.”

If they do just that, it will only add to Henry’s already mounting list of problems.
