One of the Socceroos more experienced players has caused some concern in camp with Mark Milligan filmed lying prone on the training pitch with what appeared to be a groin complaint.

The 32-year-old, who has been part of the Australian squad since 2006, looked to be in some discomfort and required attention from medical staff but was able to walk away unassisted.

Though seemingly nothing too serious, the incident comes at a bad time for Milligan with a preliminary 26-man squad to be trimmed of three players in a week.

After a mid-season move from Melbourne Victory to Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia, the midfielder, who can also be deployed in defence, played 17 games for the club since January as they finished second in the Pro League.

Having seen the incident, former Socceroos keeper Mark Schwarzer believes Milligan should be ok but conceded any serious injury would be a disaster for Australia.

"He's an important player for the squad, he's got vast amounts of experience considering we don't have a lot in the squad," Schwarzer told Optus Sport.

"So if he were to miss out because of it, it would be a bit of a disaster for us.

"So hopefully it's just a little bit of a niggle and in four or five days time he can shake it off.

"I'm more confident that it's just a little tweak maybe rather than anything else."

The Socceroos are set for friendlies against Czech Republic on June 1 and Hungary on June 10 before kicking off their World Cup campaign against France on June 16.
