KL held on to hand JDT their first defeat of the season

KL Hawks
Kuala Lumpur were pounded by Johor Darul Ta'zim for half an hour but held on to claim a famous first win of the season for them in the Super League.

A hot Sunday afternoon was the scene for the final 34 minutes of the Super League encounter between KL and JDT, which threatened to boil over at any moment. KL scored on Saturday and finally were revealed to be the winners on Sunday, when the match eventually ended.

When the two teams played the initial 56 minutes in the original schedule, KL had already taken the lead through Paulo Josue as they threatened to be the first local team to inflict a defeat on the reigning Super League champions.

As the game was restarted on Sunday afternoon, JDT made their second substitution of the match by bringing on Safawi Rasid for Adam Nor Azlin, who him replaced Marcos Antonio when the game was initially played on Saturday night.

Within minutes of the restart, JDT could have found themselves level but Kamarul Effandi came out on top twice to first deny Luciano Figueroa then made a point blank stop to Hariss Harun's shot.

Slowly but surely, despite being put on the back foot, KL started to find their foot in the match and looked dangerous on the counter attack. Twice Guilherme de Paula was picked out by the impressive Josue but found a stumbling block in Haziq Nadzli.

With 10 minute left on the clock, Figueroa glanced a header just over the crossbar and that set the scene for threatrics. KL's keeper Kamarul asked for treatment from his medical staff and that prompted Figueroa to berate his opponent for time wasting, which almost caused a free-for-all.

KL held on valiantly to spring a major surprise in the season that is only two weeks old. They not only got their first point of the season, they did it by defeating JDT - a team that has looked head and shoulders the best team in the country thus far.
