Bengaluru FC left it late to hold NorthEast United to a 1-1 draw in a dramatic Indian Super League (ISL) match at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati, on Wednesday.

A goal from Federico Gallego (64') looked to have handed the Highlanders three points before Chencho Gyeltshen's (90+2') late equaliser saved a point for Carles Cuadrat's side.

With Albert Serran back fit, it was Chencho who missed out on a starting spot for the visitors. Eelco Schattorie fielded the same team that held Jamshedpur FC away over the weekend.

The hosts looked solid at the start and also had the first clear opportunity at goal. Redeem Tlang’s shot from close range was duly saved by Gurpreet Singh Sandhu but the corner kick that ensued sparked a controversy.

Xisco Hernandez mowed down Ogbeche with his back to the ball but referee CR Srikrishna did not see the incident and NorthEast were not awarded what would have been a clear-cut penalty in the 13th minute.

Linesman Kennedy Sapam also had a shocker of a first half as he made two contentious offside calls on Ogbeche. The latter one was a bit farcical in nature when the Nigerian’s goal was disallowed for no good reason after the half hour mark.

Provat Lakra’s long ball had the former PSG man in an offside position but the linesman did not raise the flag. Albert Serran then kicked the ball which should have signaled the resumption of play as Ogbeche came from behind and smartly smashed the ball into the net but the assistant referee raised it incorrectly at that point.

Bengaluru FC did not look their threatening best even when goalkeeper Pawan Kumar looked shaky on a couple of occasions.

In the 64th minute, Federico Gallego broke the deadlock. This was after some brilliant interplay between Puitea and Ogbeche with the latter doing well to find Gallego in space down the left. The Uruguayan striker got past Albert Serran and slotted the ball home.
However, there was a late sting in the tale as Bengaluru sprung a comeback through Chencho. A cross from Kean Lewis saw Chhetri’s header find Chencho whose first time bicycle kick went straight into the back of the net.
The Highlanders continue to be on the second position as they have 19 points from 10 games while Bengaluru FC continue their sublime start to the ISL season as they still have four points gap at the top.
