ISL 2017: Jamshedpur FC rope in Brazilian midfielder Emerson Gomes

Indian Super League (ISL) newbies Jamshedpur FC have roped in Brazilian defensive midfielder Emerson Gomes for the upcoming season.

Gomes, who plied his trade for fellow ISL side Delhi Dynamos FC in the last edition, will be the third foreigner to join the Jamshedpur based franchise after Spanish defender Tiri and South African winger Sameehg Doutie.

29-year-old Emerson, who is nicknamed 'Memo', has played for a number of Brazilian clubs in his career.

He came up through the youth ranks in Santa Cruz and made his senior debut for the club in 2007. 'Memo' stayed at the club till 2015 but due to lack of game time, he moved to several clubs on loan. He has played for Treze Futebol Clube, Botafogo Futebol Clube, Crato Esporte Clube, Ponte Preta and Oeste Futbol Clube.

The defensive midfielder joined Delhi Dynamos last season from Brazilian football club America FC. He made 10 ISL appearances for the franchise and provided one assist.

The new ISL entrants are slowly assembling a fine squad for the upcoming tournament. They already have quite a few good Indian players in their ranks. Veteran Indian goalkeeper Subrata Paul, India international defender Anas Edathodika, Mehtab Hossain, Bikash Jairu and quite a few big Indian names were acquired by the side at the ISL draft this season.

With the addition of these three foreign recruits, the Tata Steel-owned team looks solid and are strong enough to challenge for the title in their maiden season.
