Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia fell 4-0 to English Premier League side Everton in a friendly played at Goodison Park on Tuesday night.
This was the second time the two sides were meeting in one year; the first meeting was last year in Dar es Salaam where goals from Wayne Rooney and youngster Kieran Dowell were enough to hand the visitors a 2-1 win, with K’Ogalo’s consolation coming from Jacques Tuyisenge.
Despite holding well in the first 15 minutes, K’Ogalo allowed their defence to be breached in the 16th minute when Ademola Lookman put the Toffees ahead, completing a free-flowing move by a simple tap-in to beat keeper Boniface Oluoch from close range.
When it seemed the score line would end at 2-0, K’Ogalo capitulated late, late into the game as quick fire strikes from Nathan Broadhead and Oumar Niase ensured the Toffees recorded a huge victory at home.
And this is how Kenyan fans reacted on Twitter as Gor Mahia became the first East African side to play a Premier League team in England.
Even if Everton scores 5 goals, this is how Kenyans will sleep tonight. Total bliss. The first African club to play a PL team in England is in itself a win. 🙌🙌 😊 #EFCvGOR Everton vs Gor Mahia pic.twitter.com/qZnY8lmGcy — Simon Robson💬 (@SymRob) November 6, 2018
I’ve seen “better” teams come to Goodison and play worse than that. Well done to Gor Mahia, I’m sure your players lived their dreams tonight and can be proud of themselves. Hope you and your players have had a good journey and experience @legend3 👍🏻🔵 — The Toffee Blues (@EvertonNewsFeed) November 6, 2018
